How to Dress for Fall When It Doesn’t Feel Like Fall
The leaves might be changing, but unfortunately, that doesn’t mean that we’re automatically gifted with consistent fall weather. So, what do we wear on those in-between days? I’m glad you asked because I’ve been trying to crack this code for a long a$$ time. As someone who hates sweating, these days are my worst nightmare. I have to be careful not to get ahead of myself by wearing a heavy sweater, jeans, and boots just because pumpkin spice lattes are back. So, after years of enduring this Katy Perry “Hot N Cold” nonsense, I took matters into my own hands and complied a list of my favorite transition weather staples. Check out how I styled them:
Sweater Vest
It’s no secret that sweater vests have been all the rage over the past couple of years. I personally love throwing sweater vests over vintage graphic t-shirts paired with baggy jeans and sneakers, but there are SO many different ways to wear them — over turtleneck shirts, over button-downs, under jackets, or even by themselves. I picked out a few vests for you to shop below. 🤩
Button-down Shirt
While button-downs can be considered a staple for any season, I especially love wearing them in the fall because they can be layered up or layered down depending on the temperature outside. As a person who loves mixing patterns and colors, my style instincts led me to combine an old Gap blue and white striped button-down with a pair of thrifted camouflage cargo pants and my J. Reneé rainbow sling-backs. Call me crazy, but my philosophy has always been…the more patterns, the better.
Oversized Blazer
I’m going to let you in on a little secret…head to your local Goodwill, then make a beeline for the men’s section. Here is where you can most likely find the perfect oversized blazer(s). I thrifted this solid black one a few years ago, but I have been able to find a few cool patterned ones since then as well. I always love pairing a blazer with my favorite bike shorts, a vintage graphic t-shirt, and either chunky boots or sneakers. However, if it’s chilly outside, ditch the shorts, throw on a pair of jeans, and call it a day.
Slip Dress
Let me just say…I LOVE a slip dress. While slip dresses are great by themselves in the summertime when it’s hot as balls outside, they also make great layering pieces in the fall. I snagged this little tiger print number from the Nordstrom intimates section (lol) a couple of years back. Along with the dress, I’m wearing a vintage Chicago Bulls t-shirt and of course, sneakers. But, if you’re going for a dressier look, you can always forget the t-shirt, and throw on a jacket (perhaps…a blazer 😉) and a pair of heels or boots.
Like what you see? I’m always posting lots of ‘fit pics here if you want to follow along. 🙃
